About Us

Our Vision
We strive to serve God through an open community of faith, love, peace, truth, justice and respect for all creation.
We are a faith-based community that believes that there are many ways to serve and follow God and we are each called to find our own path. Beacon United Church strives to provide a supportive environment as we walk together helping one another along this journey.
As an open community of faith, all people are welcome to fully participate in every aspect of our church life regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, ethnicity or religious background. We are a peace and justice-focused church and understand God’s call as a call to reach out beyond ourselves to others within our community and around the world following the example of Christ.
We are committed to being environmentally responsible. We continue to seek new ways to decrease our environmental footprint and to promote and maintain care of our earth.

Our
History
Beacon United Church is the only United Church in Yarmouth. Established in 1967, it united congregations from Central and Wesley United Churches and faith communities across the region, including Port Maitland, Hebron, Arcadia, Tusket, Brenton, and Chebogue. The name "Beacon" symbolizes its mission to be a guiding light, reflecting Yarmouth’s maritime heritage and its commitment to faith and community.

Our
Beliefs
Beacon United Church is part of the United Church of Canada, a denomination grounded in a shared vision rather than rigid doctrine. The Bible serves as a central source of wisdom and guidance, empowering us to live in right relationship with God and one another. We embrace open Communion, welcoming all who seek a deeper connection with Christ, and offer baptism to individuals of all ages, celebrating God’s unconditional love.

Inclusion & Social Justice
The United Church of Canada has a strong commitment to Social Justice. Beacon United fully embraces this tradition with a strong focus on social, economic, and environmental issues. We believe that as a Christian community, we are called to the difficult work of living out the vision of justice and unconditional love we see through Christ.
Beacon has been actively involved in 2SLGBTQIA+ activities for many years. We officially became an Affirming Ministry in September 2022, by which the church publicly declared its commitment to inclusion and justice for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

A Vibrant Community Hub
We’re more than a place of worship. We’re a space for community connection and support. Churches give back to their communities in tangible ways, and, in return, the community enriches the church.
